Smart Home Features — 10 video ideas, graded by evidence

Cold-start channel, 5 videos, 38 subscribers. Every idea is a proven title structure transferred from a peer-band donor onto a room where that structure does not exist yet. Peer band for a channel this size is 1K–250K subs — evidence from Nick Lewis (805K), Reynard Lowell (603K), Daniel Titchener (630K) and Builder Brigade (459K) proves subject interest only and is labelled as such; it never lifts a grade. The ranking was manually re-ordered after the fan-out: four of its ten ideas rested on rooms with no demand evidence at all.

How the score works

adjusted  =  raw  ×  evidence quality  ×  structure conformance

Evidence quality is graded from what was actually found: strong ×1.00 (two or more real videos, best above 150K) · partial ×0.75 (two or more, best above 35K) · thin ×0.45 (anything less). Structure conformance drops below 1.00 when the final title rewrote part of the proven structure instead of only filling its slots — the precedent then only partly applies. Every card shows its chain, so you can see exactly what was applied.

Ranking

Title-structure bank

Outlier scores are measured against each donor channel's own median, not against Smart Home Features (5 videos = statistical noise). Only structures proven on two or more independent channels were transferred. Note the dead year tag: none of this niche's current 300K+ winners carries "In 2026" — they use "Right Now", "In 1 Year" or "Never Fix Later" instead.

9 Bathroom Upgrades That Backfire When You Sell

Novelty0.92

Why: this is the only structure Smart Home Features has proved on itself — the kitchen fill took 8.2K in seven days on 38 subscribers, 3× the channel average, while the garage and backyard uploads from the same batch died at 88 and 123. The structure is independently proven at 107K (Mac Rogers) and 57K (Becker), both inside the peer band. Bathroom is the single strongest room in this niche at every channel size, and the exact structure×room fill is empty: the best rival attempt, "7 Designer Bathroom Trends That KILL Resale Value", has 1.9K views. Autumn is US listing season, which is when resale framing peaks.

Thumbnail OUT/IN vertical split in the channel's house style: left half a dated beige bathroom, desaturated, red 'OUT ✕' badge; right half a warm golden-hour bathroom, green 'IN ✓' badge; giant yellow all-caps 'KILLS YOUR SALE' with thick black outline across the bottom.

Manually promoted to #1. The fan-out returned zero ideas on this structure — its diversity cap (2 per root topic) filtered out the channel's own winning ladder. That is a defect in the ranking, not a signal about the idea.

Why: Becker has run this exact structure on four different fixtures — cabinets 846K, vanities 541K, showers 332K, countertops 78K — and Penny Modern's rotation of the vanity fill still took 97K, so the structure rewards a rotation rather than punishing it. Every rung of that ladder is now occupied except bathtubs, and a tub is a $2,000–6,000 decision with real regret potential (drop-in vs freestanding, acrylic vs cast iron, tub-to-shower conversions).

Thumbnail One freestanding tub centre-frame with a large red circle-and-slash over it, yellow all-caps 'DON'T BUY THIS' bottom-left, plus a small green-ticked tub inset top-right to promise the payoff.

Evidence caveat: the topic proof is bathroom-fixture-level, not bathtub-specific — no dedicated bathtub-warning video exists in the niche. That is what makes the slot open, but it also means the demand number is inferred from the neighbouring fixtures rather than measured. Do NOT run the shower fill: Becker owns it at 332K and a copy by Frank Does Construction is already stalled at 4.1K.

Why: the strongest structure in the bank on independence — three separate channels have 244K–753K on it and Daniel Hale proved the room-filled rotation works (kitchen, 50K). Bathroom trends carry their own demand at every size in the peer band: Becker 383K on tile trends, Penny Modern 121K, Design Blueprint 56K a month ago. The bathroom fill of this exact structure is empty.

Thumbnail Grid of six bathroom trend photos, four stamped with a red 'HATED' badge, two with a green tick; yellow all-caps 'EVERYONE HATES THESE' across the bottom.

Replaced "6 Bathroom Mistakes You Can Never Fix Later", which failed the evidence gate: that structure runs on one channel only (Becker), and its own recent fills are collapsing — garage 340K, then cabinets 11.6K twelve days ago, with two copies dead at 81 and 52 views.

Why: the strongest cold-start evidence in this whole run is Anthony Johnson's 125K on 1.4K subscribers with a rotation of this structure — that is a channel smaller than the peer floor beating its size by two orders of magnitude. The parent at Nick Lewis is 561K. Bathroom is the open fill of the pair; the only existing bathroom version, Penny Modern's, sits at 20K.

Thumbnail A magazine-perfect spa bathroom with a big red X over the freestanding tub and rainfall head, 'DREAM?' in yellow caps top-left, a shocked homeowner inset bottom-right.

The KITCHEN fill of this structure is now blocked — Nick Lewis published "15 'Dream' Kitchen Upgrades You Should NEVER Get" three days ago and it is already at 134K. Do not rotate into kitchen.

Novelty0.88

Why: the "Right Now" phrasing is what replaced the dead "In 2026" year tag in this niche, and Becker's whole-home fill took 394K in two months. Living room is the second-strongest room after bathroom and is proven inside the peer band — Balance + Rhythm at 30K subs has 620K on it and Jerry Davis at 10.9K subs took 49K two months ago. The room fill of this exact structure is empty.

Thumbnail Split frame: left a grey barn-door-and-shiplap living room with a red 'HATED' badge, right a warm layered living room with a green tick; yellow caps 'EVERYONE HATES THIS' across the bottom.

Same structure as idea 3 (bathroom fill). Space them at least four uploads apart. Note the swarm: the whole-home fill now has three winners and at least three dead copies (3.6K, 2.9K, 44) — the structure is proven, the whole-home slot is closed.

Novelty0.86

Why: the word is HORRIBLE, not "Awful". Four independent channels have million-plus results with HORRIBLE (1.9M / 1.8M / 2.3M / 682K); the sister channel Home Features swapped in the softer "Awful" and its two fills averaged 0.4× its own baseline. The living-room fill exists only as two dead micro-copies (217 and 80 views), so the room is open at this structure.

Thumbnail Cluttered living room with three red circles on the offending features (accent wall, oversized sectional, TV over fireplace), 'HORRIBLE' in yellow caps with black outline across the bottom.

Do not copy a winning title verbatim. "How To Sell Your Home" cloned The Design Blueprint's lawn title word-for-word and went from 345K (original) to 1,398 views. Rotate the room, keep the wording pattern.

Why: the builder's upgrade sheet is the single most expensive regret decision in this audience's life — $30K of options chosen from a laminated menu in twenty minutes. The structure is proven twice, and "new-build" is the fill neither Nick Lewis nor Anthony Johnson took.

Thumbnail A builder's option sheet with prices, three items circled in red, a spec-home facade behind it, yellow caps 'DON'T TICK THESE' bottom-left.

Highest saturation in the top group (50%) — new-construction advice is a crowded lane with plenty of builder-adjacent channels already in it.

Season60
Novelty0.93

Why: the fixture ladder is this channel's cleanest open lane and kitchen sinks is a rung nobody has taken with the warning frame — Becker went positive on it three weeks ago ("I Tested 50 Kitchen Sinks", 49K) and left the negative version, which is the frame that outperforms in this niche, on the table. Farmhouse sinks that chip, undermount failures in laminate, and the workstation-sink fad all give the script real material.

Thumbnail Close-up of a chipped white farmhouse sink with a red circle-slash, a green-ticked stainless workstation sink inset top-right, yellow caps 'DON'T BUY THIS SINK' bottom.

Replaced "7 Layout Mistakes That Ruin Every Small Home", which failed the evidence gate: the layout structure runs on Becker alone (three of his own videos), and the only other channel to try it, Design Framework, died at 1.7K two weeks ago. Sinks are also the weakest fixture on the ladder — 49K where vanities did 541K — so treat this as filler, not a spearhead.

Why: removal framing is this channel's DNA and this structure is proven on two independent channels at 451K and 882K. The channel's own whole-home fill was its second-best video (4.7K in nine days), so the structure works here; only the kitchen fill failed. Living room is the strongest unclaimed room for it.

Thumbnail Cluttered living room on the left with five items circled in red, the same room stripped and styled on the right, yellow caps 'REMOVE THESE 11' across the bottom.

HOLD until October. The channel shipped two fills of this structure nine days apart — whole-home 4.7K, then kitchen 698 — and the sister channel Home Features collapsed 114× doing exactly this. The idea is sound; the timing is not. Ship ideas 1–6 first.

Why: the nostalgia frame is one of the three biggest structures in this niche right now (Becker 416K, Nick Lewis 335K, Penny Modern 497K) and the entryway fill is completely empty. Jerry Davis proved the room can carry a listicle at all — 31K in ten days on 10.9K subs — and mudrooms, boot benches, transoms and vestibules give the script real material.

Thumbnail Sepia-toned vintage entryway with built-in bench and transom window on the left, cold modern bare hallway on the right, yellow caps 'WHY DID WE STOP?' across the bottom.

Weakest evidence in the top group: entryway demand rests on a single ten-day-old video. Treat this as the calculated bet of the batch, not a safe pick.

What the evidence changed

The fan-out's top 10 rested on four rooms with no demand evidence — the ranking was rebuilt by hand.

The workflow returned front porch (twice), laundry room and patio in its top 10. A room-level demand search found zero regret/mistake videos with real reach for front porch, laundry room, mudroom or home office anywhere in the niche. Their cards' "topic evidence" was whole-home material — a 2.3M "11 Horrible Home UPGRADES You'll Regret", an 846K cabinets video — which proves the structure, not the room. All four were demoted and replaced with bathroom, living room and basement fills that carry their own in-band proof.

The channel's own winning structure was filtered out of the fan-out by a diversity cap.

"{N} {AREA} Upgrades That Backfire When You Sell" is the only structure Smart Home Features has proved on itself — 8.2K views in 7 days on 38 subscribers, 3× its own average, while the garage and backyard uploads from the same batch died at 88 and 123. It returned zero ideas because the workflow caps output at 2 per root topic and "resale" collided with itself. Added back manually at #1.

Slot ladders — the title machine, so you can keep pulling without a new run.

Exact copies die; rotations pay. Measured twice in this run.

"How To Sell Your Home" cloned The Design Blueprint's lawn title word-for-word: original 345K, clone 1,398. Frank Does Construction copied Becker's shower title: original 332K, copy 4.1K. Meanwhile Penny Modern rotated Becker's vanity fill and took 97K, and rotated the cabinet fill for 139K. The rule is rotate the slot, keep the wording pattern.

Third consecutive run in this family with zero explore-lane survivors.

198 candidates from 122 cells, 20 after dedup, 20 exploit / 0 explore. The two prior runs on the sister channel returned 0/477 and 0/342. This niche pays for faithful transfer onto a fresh room, not for clever transformation — stop spending fan-out budget on the explore lane here.

The year tag is still dead in this niche — and the sister channel's softened wording is what killed its numbers.

None of the current 300K+ winners carries "In 2026"; they use "Right Now" (394K), "In 1 Year" (155K) or "Never Fix Later" (340K). Separately, Home Features swapped the market's proven HORRIBLE (1.9M / 1.8M / 2.3M / 682K on four channels) for "Awful" and averaged 0.4× its own baseline on that structure.
